Bangor and Bucksport
- Melva E. Grindle, 92, passed away on February 8, 2018, in Bangor with her loving family by her side. She was born on April 3, 1925, the daughter of Isaac and Edith (Emery) Brawn.
Melva graduated from Maine School of Commerce with a business degree and worked for many years in the Bucksport School Superintendent's office.
She was a covenant member of the Elm Street Congregational Church. She was a Girl Scout Leader, the president of the Garden Club, a member of the American Contract Bridge League, Junior Master, and a lifelong member of the Eastern Star. She loved doing crossword puzzles. Her most rewarding times were spent cheering on her children and grandchildren in their many activities and sports.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Smith and husband, Ben, of Old Town; son, Steven Grindle and wife, Maria, of Essex Jct., VT; grandchildren, Tracey Mahoney of Hampden, Shannon Smith of Somesville, Trina Collins and husband, Justin, of Hollidaysburg, PA, Jessica Tharp and husband, Robert, of Eureka, CA, Ryan Grindle of Essex Jct., VT, and Emma Grindle of Essex Jct., VT; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Mahoney, Adria and Zoe Horton, and Evelyn and Nia Collins and Chevelle Tharp. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Donald H. Grindle, who passed away in 2011.
The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Phillips-Strickland House for their loving care of Melva while she was a resident. Thanks go as well to Beacon Hospice, EMMC's Palliative Care Team and the Merritt 3 staff at EMMC for their excellent care during her last days.

Memorial services will be held later in the spring. Arrangements are under the care of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Bucksport.
