Maynard's Story

OLD TOWN - Maynard H Merritt, 63, passed away May 4th, 2015, at his home after a 14 year battle with

cancer. He was born the son of Henry W. and Mildred (Roy) Merritt of Old Town on Sept. 7, 1951.

Maynard was a 1969 graduate of Old Town High School, a Vietnam Veteran, a 1974 graduate of EMVTI and a life member of the VFW.

Maynard enjoyed spending time with his loving grandchildren who dearly loved their "Pepe". He also enjoyed many years of hunting and

fishing with his "Hot Hole" buddies.

He was an avid horseshoe player and camp cook at Teri and Mike's camp on Brandy Pond where many memories were shared with family and friends.

He loved shopping at Hannaford, reminiscing with his former co-workers and locals.

He is survived by his wife, Fonda (Hobbs) of 33 years; two children, Danielle and companion, Tim of Milford, Casey and companion, Haley of Bangor; three grandchildren, Vincent, Gracie and Harper; five sisters, Erline Pooler and husband, Lloyd of Lebanon, IL, Jeannine Osman of St. Augustine, FL, Dona Cirillo and husband, James of Windsor, CT, Joan Merritt and companion, Jeff of Andover, CT, Theresa (Teri) Dow and husband, Mike of Milford; one brother, Henry (Hank) Merritt Jr.

of Old Town; mother-in-law, Sally Hobbs of East Millinocket; brother-in-law, George Hobbs and wife, Katherine of Millinocket, as well as many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Ann Marie; brother-in-law, James "Ernie" O'Connor; and father

in-law, Charles "Buddy" Hobbs.

A Holy mass will be held at the Holy Family Church Saturday, May 9th, Main Street, Old Town, ME at 9:00 am with a reception to follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Merritt Education Trust, Penobscot County Federal Credit Union, 205 Main Street, Old Town, ME 04468 for the future education of his grandchildren.
