- Maurice A. Bilodeau, Jr. 94, died peacefully on September 2, 2016 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after a long life and short illness. He was born in North Vassalboro, Maine on August 15, 1922 the son of Sarah Poulin and Maurice Bilodeau, Sr.
He grew up in North Vassalboro and graduated from Winslow High School.
Maurice served in the Army during WWII, and following his service returned to Winslow, marrying Cecile Veilleux in 1947. He moved his family to Presque Isle, then Veazie for his employment as an engineer with New England Telephone. After retiring, he enjoyed his many hobbies which included fly-tying, fishing, golf, hunting, Ham radio (N1CFI), traveling, and flying his plane. He was especially proud of having earned hi commercial pilot's
license. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the VFW, the American Legion, Mechanic's Lodge # 66, and the Anah Shrine. Anyone who knew him knew that he couldn't pass up a bargain, need it of not! In retirement, he and Cecile spent their summers on Great Pond in Belgrade, and the winter months in Zephyrhills.
He is survived by a son, Paul Bilodeau Sr. and his companion Ien Yoe or Freehold, NJ; a daughter Theresa Collier and her husband Russell of Pittsfield, ME; grandchildren Paul Bilodeau Jr. of Lisbon Falls and his daughter Hannah; Stacey Hatch and her husband Matthew and their children Jonathan and Emelyn of Pittsfield; Bethany Malone and her husband Ryan, and
their son Bastien of Lewisburg, PA; Emily Meehan and her husband Brian of Sanford, NC; Bonnie Collier of Portland, ME' and Thomas Collier of Ponte Verde, FL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as a dear friend and companion, Jean Simpson of Zephyrhills.
He was predeceased by his wife Cecile; his parents; a brother Paul; a son Joseph; and a sister, Mrs. Gerald (Dollena) Michaud.
Friends and family are invited to visit from 6PM-8PM on Tuesday September 6 at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday September 7 at 11 AM at Notre Dame Church, 112 Silver Street, Waterville. Burial will be at the Main Veterans Cemetery in Augusta at a later date.
