Mary's Story

Text size

Caribou - Mary A. Dionne, 56, joined the Lord in song and dance October 20th, 2016, after fighting a long illness. Her family and friends battled with her, bringing hope and joy to light the shadows as she walked closer to the Lord. Her friends Alma, Alice, Dave, Annie, Sandra, Randy, and Lily, along with her daughter, Bobbie Jo and sister, Donna, gave tremendously of themselves to love Mary in recent days and years.
Mary was born in Presque Isle, September 1st, 1960, to Harold and Ola (Farris) Poitraw. She leaves behind her son, Scott Dionne and his wife, Sloan, along with their three boys ("Mary's Boys"), Pruet, Orrin, and Keats. She also leaves behind her daughter, Bobbie Jo Dionne, and her children, Devon and Briana. Her five grandchildren and all the children Mary has met and cared for over the years will miss the love of Mémère and remember all of the treats and toys she wasn't supposed to give them.
Mary's friends and relatives will always remember her courage. It sustained her when she had to grow up too quickly as so many people do in Aroostook County. It fostered her strength, giving her the ability to love many and help more. And no one will forget her strength.
In recent years, Mary's front door never stopped swinging. She loved having friends and family visit; her house was always open to everyone. A warm cup a coffee and a meal were always waiting for anyone willing to pull up a chair and talk the hours away. Mary was the master of conversation.
Mary asked that we celebrate her life, not through a service or ceremony, but by celebrating our own lives and sharing how she became part of our stories. She would like nothing more than for all of you to sit across from your loved ones at home, at the table and appreciate each other. Carry on her will to love each other completely.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's name to the Caribou Bread of Life Kitchen, 62 Collins Street, Caribou, Maine 04736.
