Mary's Story

HAMPDEN - Mary "Mimi" (Nickerson) Chase, 86, wife of 60 years to the late Robert B. Chase, passed away July 22, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 23, 1928 in Hampden, the daughter of Scott and Georgia (Annis) Nickerson.

Mary was a lifetime member of the Hampden VFW Ladies Auxilliary, and a founding member of the Hampden Historical Society. She worked for the school lunch programs in Hampden and Winslow. Mary catered weekly suppers for Hampden Kiwanis Club for several years.

After retirement she enjoyed working in the family business - Village Miniatures - and chatting with customers. Mary loved going for Sunday rides any day of the week and going out to eat at Chase's Family Restaurant. She also found great joy and pleasure in loving her cats. Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.

She is survived by her daughters, Ellyn J. Chase and Janet P. Chase, both of Hampden; her sister, Joyce Mayer of Winterport; special nephew, William Nickerson of Hampden; lifelong friend, Marie Sanford of Hampden; several special nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, Robert, Mary was predeceased by a sister Arrene Nickerson and a brother Kenneth.

The family gives special thanks to the caregivers of St. Joseph's Hospice Care for their compassionate care during Mary's final days. And to her niece, Allyson Dorrity for being her care companion for the past seven months.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2015 at the Hampden Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden with the Rev. Jeffrey Tenney officiating. Relatives and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be in the Lakeview cemetery, Hampden. In keeping with Mary's love for the town of Hampden, memorial gifts may be made to the Hampden Ambulance Service, 106 Western Ave., Hampden, Maine 04444.
