Marlin's Story

APOLLO BEACH, Fla., and PITTSFIELD - Marlin Blake Smith, 63, of Apollo Beach, Florida, formerly of Pittsfield, died March 23, 2016, in Florida. Marlin was born in Hartland, January 31, 1953, the son of Leona Woelk Smith of Pittsfield and the late Robert Shaw Smith.

He owned and operated his real estate appraisal business (MBS Associates) for many years in Pittsfield.

In addition to his mother, Marlin is survived by his wife, Nadine Smith of Apollo Beach; his son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Kim Smith of Brandon, Florida; and stepson, Jeremy Gates of Hamden, Ct. He is also survived by three brothers, Grayln Smith and wife, Annette, of Greenville, Kevin Smith and wife, Deborah, of Pittsfield and Warren Smith of Portland; and his former wife, Reita Abbott of Deltona, Florida. He leaves behind many close friends who have been ever present during his illness and was eternally grateful for those relationships. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and E. Lee Bowling, paternal grandparents, Rochie and Minnie Smith; and maternal grandparents, Edward and Mary Woelk of Pawnee Rock, Kansas.

There will be no formal services and Marlin requested his ashes be scattered over Moosehead Lake in Greenville at the family summer camp at a later time with family and friends.
