- Mark Andrew York, 41, passed away unexpectedly and far too soon on January 10, 2018, surrounded by loved ones at his home on Turnpike Ridge. He was born on December 20, 1976, in Millinocket, ME, the son of H. Arthur York and Elaine (McLaughlin) York.
Mark was a friend to all he met and was known to be the "life of the party." Whether he was entertaining at his home, sitting around the campfire, or singing "What a Wonderful World" at the local pub, he would no doubt leave a lasting impression. His greatest achievement was being a father to Amos which he took much pride in. Mark was a simple man who loved life and lived it to the fullest.
Mark graduated from Schenck High School in 1995. While still in high school, he started working at his father's business, H. Arthur York Firewood and Logging, alongside his grandfather, Howard York. Mark was a hard worker, a trait passed down through the generations, and held numerous roles throughout the years from cutting firewood, to driving truck, and most recently as a mechanical operator.
Mark loved to draw and had a talent for it. He started drawing as soon as he could hold a pencil. He would doodle and sketch on any little scrap of paper he could find. This gift led him to being published in the local newspaper and his work can still be seen in several local establishments.
Mark was an avid outdoorsman. Whether it be fishing, hunting, or cruising Rockabeme while listening to Country Gold, you could be sure it always involved a fun adventure. Mark was well known for his signature hats -- a camo booney in the warm weather or a fur bomber during the colder months. To see him without one was a rarity.
Mark leaves behind his wife, Kimberly, and son, Amos; his parents, Elaine York, H. Arthur, and Lynn York, all of Medway; siblings, Jodie York of Saco, Mariah, Nicholas, and Teagan York of Medway; mother and father-in-law, Tom and Ruth Ingalls of Medway; sisters-in-law, Michelle Irvin of CT, and Rebecca Ingalls of Brewer and their families; as well as special longtime friends, Chris and Lisa Gagnon of Medway, Todd and Whitney Leighton of Medway, Brandy Shaw and family of East Millinocket, Kevin Pepin of Millinocket Lake, and many others, too numerous to list; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mark was predeceased by grandparents, Howard and Marion York; Virginia and John Smith; and Warren and Eva McLaughlin.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack Street, Millinocket. A celebration of Mark's life will continue that afternoon with refreshments, beverages, and fond remembrances at the Donald Henry Post #80 American Legion Hall, Central Street, Millinocket, from 3 o'clock on.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made towards Amos' college fund at the East Millinocket Federal Credit Union, Main Street, East Millinocket. Messages of condolence may be expressed at www.lamsonfh.com.
