THE VILLAGES, FL - Marjorie Neal Brown, aged 88, died peacefully on February 28, 2016 at the Lane Purcell Hospice House, a Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care Facility in Sumterville, Florida. Marjorie lived in Brewer, Maine with her husband, Philip L. Brown, for 53 years. Born on September 28, 1927 in Eaton, Maine, she was the daughter of Leonard and Clemmie (Kinney) Neal.
As a premature infant, Marjorie spent the first week of her life wrapped in cotton baton and placed in a shoe box behind the wood stove in the kitchen for warmth. She graduated from high school at Houghton Academy, Houghton, NY and attended college there. She studied at the Eastern Academy of Beauty Culture in Bangor, ME and was a licensed beautician. In 1990, after 25 years of service as the secretary for the office of Dr. Sidney Chason of Bangor, Marjorie retired. Until 2014, Marjorie lived at the Ellen Leach Memorial Home in Brewer so that she could be near her son, Kevin. For the last two years of her life, Marjorie lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Toby Youngs, in The Villages, FL. To celebrate her life, her grandchildren are spending their time baking cookies and pies using "Grammie Brown's" famous recipes and posting their favorite photos of her on Facebook. One of Marjorie's greatest adventures was, at the age of 82, traveling to Thailand with Rita Youngs and Ellen and Toby Youngs. She was taken by surprise when an elephant lifted her off her feet with its trunk. The great-grandchildren love the shocked look on her face in the photo.
She was predeceased by her husband, Philip L. Brown; parents, Leonard and Clemmie Neal; brothers, Randall and Richard Neal; sister, Ellen Barnett and her husband, Ralph Barnett; and her infant daughter, Karen. She is survived by her son, Kevin Brown and his partner, Bruce O'Donnell, of Waterville, ME; her daughter, Ellen Youngs and son-in-law, Toby Youngs, of The Villages, FL; grandchildren Jamison Brown and his wife, Ashley, Kristen Soule and her husband, Christopher, Karen Youngs, Julie Hicks and her husband, Timothy, Debra Youngs Junkoon, and Christian Youngs; great-grandchildren, Noah Hicks, Micah Hicks, Elijah Hicks, and Marjorie Junkoon.
A memorial service is planned for a later date followed by burial at the Eaton Cemetery, Eaton, ME.
