December 21, 2015

Colorado Springs, Colo., And Orono COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO., and ORONO - Mrs. Marie Cushman passed peacefully on December 21, 2015, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was born at home in Orono, Maine, the fifth and last of five girls of Frank and Alice Doyle.

She attended Saint Mary's Catholic School. Marie met Robert Cushman, an engineering student and ROTC member of the University of Maine. After graduating high school, Marie contributed to the WWII effort by soldering circuit boards at General Electric in New Haven, CT. Robert and Marie were married in New Jersey shortly before his deployment to the Philippines. Marie returned to live in Orono during and after her pregnancy with Robert Jr. After the war while Robert Sr. completed his degree, Pamela was born. The family moved to East Rutherford, then Park Ridge, NJ, and grew to include children Cynthia, Deborah, James and Michael. Marie was active in PTA and Girl Scouts until her youngest attended grade school; she then began her career in retail at JC Penney. Later she joined United Jersey Bank in the busy Paramus Plaza branch, where she worked until her retirement. She lived in a large colonial home in Park Ridge on Pascack Road for more than 60 years. Throughout that time she was a supporter and attended Our Lady of Mercy Church. She greatly enjoyed walks along the lake and to the public library throughout her retirement years. The family thanks all the neighbors, friends, post office, police, and township for all the help that allowed Marie to live in her home that she loved for so long.

She is survived by five children, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. at the Newman Center 83 College Ave., Orono, on May 13, 2016. Immediately following the service, burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Orono.
