Marie Alfreda's Story
- Marie Alfreda 'Bea' (Levesque) Daigle died at Katahdin Nursing Home in Millinocket on 12th day OF February, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on the 17th of September, 1921, as the fourth child to Joseph Irene (Rene) Levesque and Annee Marchand of Verret, New Brunswick, Canada. Alfreda married Herman Daigle on September 20, 1943, in Edmundston, NB, Canada.
Alfreda and Herman built a home in East Millinocket and lived there until Herman's death in 2008. They both worked very hard to make a living and a home. Alfreda loved to cook, garden, knit, and paint ceramics. She also loved to play cards with her friends. Although she spoke primarily French, she learned enough English to be able to survive in an English speaking society while living in Maine. Alfreda was a fun-loving, God-fearing woman. Alfreda lived in her home in East Millinocket until Nov. 2014 when she moved into the Katahdin Nursing Home in Millinocket when she needed specialized daily care. She lived alone at Spring Street until she was 93 years old.
Alfreda liked spending time at her camp on Smith Pond in Millinocket and traveling to visit family in Canada and Fort Kent. Alfreda was also known for her generosity with her family and loved to spend time with them all. Alfreda was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church and served over 50 years as a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Alfreda especially loved her grandchildren, dedicating much of her time with the children born to Maurice Daigle and his wife, Peggy, and to Francine and her husband, Robert Leathers.
Alfreda is survived by her son, Maurice Daigle and his wife, Peggy; daughter, Francine Leathers and her husband, Bob, of East Millinocket; four grandchildren, Keli and Aaron Marston of Presque Isle, Robert and Julie Leathers of Medway, Andrew and Jennifer Leathers of Woodville, and Kyle Leathers of East Millinocket; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Dawn Marston, Kacie Marie Marston, Breanna Lee, and Brittney Lee. She is also survived by her sister, Beth Levesque. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman, in 2008 and granddaughter, Angela Dawn Daigle in 1999, and siblings, Edmond, Jeanne, Martin, Paul, Wilfred, Cecile, and Helene.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, East Millinocket, with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider.
