Lucille Frances O'Brien, 76, of Dover, DE passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Kent General Hospital after an extended illness.

Luce was born May 9, 1940 in Madison, Maine to the late John Nelson Gilbert and Sarah Whitney Gilbert. She lived for many years in Veazie, Maine, graduating from Bangor High School and attending the University of Maine in Orono.

In addition to homemaker and mother extraordinaire, she was a gifted floral designer, gardener and community volunteer. She provided her family and friends with beautiful arrangements and wreaths throughout the years. She also gave generously in time and effort to such organizations including Girl Scouts and 4H, regional and national parks planting trees and mulching trails, and adopting roads for regular trash clean-up. She was an optimist (despite facing harder challenges than most) who dearly loved every member of her family, animals, gift shops and pretty things. She embraced life to its fullest and enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the US and Europe.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Erin and son-in-law Doug Crane.

She is survived by her husband of 57 ½ years, David O'Brien of Dover; children, David J. O'Brien (Kristine) of Lakewood, CO, Cathy O'Brien of Arvada, CO, Susie (Bruce) of South Riding, VA and John O'Brien of Denver, CO; brother, John L. Gilbert (Kathy) of St. Albans, ME; grandchildren, Catelin (Henry), Jennifer (Tommy), Sarah, Ethan, Abbie and great granddaughter, Annabel.
