Text size

Hartland and Palmyra - Lois A. (Norris) Bowden, 65, passed Sept. 9, 2017 at her Hartland home from cancer that was diagnosed Aug. 18, 2017. She was born in Plymouth Nov. 22, 1951 the daughter of Maynard L. Norris and Maxine N. (Bennett) Norris.
Lois graduated from Nokomis Regional High School years later than she should have, then followed that with a business degree from Beal's College. In earlier years she was a weaver at Eastland Woolen Mill in Corinna, then she was a stitcher for Dexter Shoe Company in Newport, ME, for over 20 years. After the shoe shop closed in 2000, Dave and Lois decided to purchase a lot in Plamyra, ME, and build Palmyra Variety, on the corner of Rt. 2 / Rt. 151, in Palmyra, opening Oct. 8, 2001 which is till operated at the time of her death, thanks to great help and work ethics from her wonderful family and super employees.
Their camp on Sibley Pond, in Canaan, ME, was Lois's favorite place in the world, it was her dream come true, where she spent many, many wonderful times with her family. Lois enjoyed bowling, also many trips to Nascar races and Casinos with their best friends, Sandra and Richard Higgins of Palmyra.
Lois is survived by her husband and love of her life, David F. Bowden of Hartland, her sister and husband, Carolyn M., and John R. Wood of Machiasport, brother Carl M. Norris of East Newport, four children; Shawn Weeks and his fiancé, Shawna Varrelmann of Palmyra, Michelle N. McEwen of Palmyra, Travis D. McEwen Sr. of St. Albans, Stanley McEwen and his wife Don'l of Canaan, stepdaughter Wendy Rines and her husband David of Palmyra, daughter-in-law Atchara (Oil) McEwen of Hartland, seven grandchildren: Ethan Michael Weeks, Faylynn May McEwen, Harley David Fuller, Chase Austin McEwen, Travis Daniel McEwen Jr., Colby Michael Watson, Curtis Wayne Watson, Thad Allen and Bobbie Sue Rines, four great-grandchildren; Conner and Carson Watson, Tristen and Aubrie Rines, cousin, Pamela (Bennett) Shepard of Canaan, and best friend Barbara (Shaw) Irving of St. Albans, several step-children, nieces, nephews and cousins, too many to mention, but, please know they are all loved.
She was predeceased by her mother and father and her little brother, Stanley O. Norris. One of the comforts Lois had was knowing she would see her little brother again (who passed away suddenly Feb. 6, 2010).
Special thank you to all Family and friends that helped Dave and Lois through this time of need. One message Lois would like to leave is "IF YOU DANCE, SOMEDAY, YOU HAVE TO PAY THE FIDDLER."
Graveside services for Lois will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Fairview Cemetery, Rt. 23, Canaan, ME, with Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, ME.
