- Lisa (Miller) Tyson was born on September 1, 1958, in Houlton. She was soon adopted by her adoring parents, Frank and Viola Miller, of Madawaska. Lisa lived in Madawaska through her childhood and then in Fort Kent. She graduated from UMaine Fort Kent in 1979 and moved on to get a degree at UMaine in Orono. She worked and lived in the area around the University for several years moving to Milford in 1988. While working at the University, she met her future husband, Jim Tyson. They were married in March of 1993, during a blizzard. This proved not to be an omen as they were joyously married until her death on Christmas Eve morning of 2017.
Lisa and her husband fenced as a hobby, both with and against each other. Because fencing requires the assistance of people who indulge it, Lisa volunteered much of her time in organizations that she enjoyed. Therefore, she spent most of the last 25 years as the sometimes official, and other times unofficial, advisor and coach of the UMaine fencing club, called the Blade Society. She was also highly involved in the local Society for Creative Anachronism group serving at various times as fencing marshal, newsletter publisher, and since the position had begun, as the Web Minister. Her generous spirit and assistance will be missed and she will be mourned by her husband and friends.
Friends are invited to call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town.
