- Lisa Asnis, of Orono, Maine, passed away on 16 January, 2018.
Lisa Asnis was born January 30, 1927 in Kolberg/Ostseebad, Germany.
Her parents passed away when Lisa was a child. She was enrolled in a private boarding school which, before World War II, was evacuated to Cornwall, England. Lisa became certified as a Nursery Nurse with The British National Society of Children's Nurseries working during the final years of WWII in children's wards. She met her first husband, Pawel Mayewski, a Lieutenant in the Polish division of the British Army and later a writer, during VE Day and lived in Edinburgh, Scotland, where their son, Paul, was born. They moved to Leicester, England, and then immigrated to the United States. Lisa married Al Asnis, a WWII veteran and chief of black and white developing at Time and Life. They lived for many years happily together in New York City and Old Saybrook, Connecticut.
She loved to learn and to write. She started college in her 70's receiving an Associate's degree from the University of New Hampshire. She then went on to get her Bachelor's and then her Master's, at age 84, from the University of Maine.
Lisa lived her life to the fullest and with enthusiasm.
She leaves her son, Paul Mayewski and her daughter-in-law, Lyn Mayewski, of Maine, her step-daughter, Judy Lucker and her husband, Jim Lucker, of Utah, her step-daughter, Barbara Beyer of Florida, as well as step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Orono Commons as well as the Lafayette Family Cancer Center and other medical professionals who helped Lisa through the last of her many journeys.
Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to the charity of their choice.
