Lionel S. Bouchard, 92, Orrington, passed away July 18 at his home. He was born August 22, 1924 at Portland, ME, the son of J. Simon and Bernadette (Boudreau) Bouchard.

He grew up in Portland, Lincoln, Bangor, Orrington and Brewer. He was a graduate of John Bapst High School.

During World War II he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and became an airplane engine mechanic, serving in Italy and France.

After his discharge he attended the University of Maine and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.

He worked as an engineer for the State of Maine for several years, then was a patent examiner and researcher at the Patent and Trademark Office at Arlington, VA for many years until his retirement. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Orrington.

He was a communicant, choir member and cantor of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Teresa's Church, a Knight of Columbus, and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He enjoyed music, stereo system design, airplane design, gun design and reading.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia (Worcester), his parents, five siblings: Juliette "Julie" Fish of Orrington, Yvette Bouchard of Washington, DC, Therese Lajoie of Lanham, MD, Robert of McLean, VA and George of Fairfield, CA.

Survivors include his brother, Paul of Orrington, his stepdaughter and caregiver, Margaret Shields of Orrington, many nieces and nephews.

Having been a victim of Alzheimer's disease for many years, it was his hope that the study of his brain may help researchers, so he donated his body to the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Biddeford, Maine. After study, his remains will be interred at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor, Maine.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Teresa's Church at Brewer, Maine at 10 a.m. on Monay, July 25. Following the mass, friends and family are invited to the parish center for fellowship.
