- Leroy "Max" Johnston, 91, passed away Sunday evening July 30, 2017, at Maine Veterans Home in Caribou. He was born October 15, 1925, in Presque Isle, the son of Chester and Annie (Neddeau) Johnston.
He served in the US Navy. He worked as a delivery driver for E.W. Larkin Oil Co. and Allen's Bottled Gas. He and his wife, Connie, moved to New Hampshire. Max worked in maintenance at a housing complex. When they decided to move back to Presque Isle, he worked at Presque Isle Housing authority, and tinkered and fixed vacuum cleaners.
He is survived by a son, Alan Johnston; a daughter, Linda Shotwell of Florida; a son, Tommy Johnston of New Hampshire; three brothers, Carroll Johnston and his wife, Debbie of Greene, Preston Johnston and his wife, Beverly of Caribou, and Geary Johnston; a sister, Madge Bowman of Shreve, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Connie (Hotham) Johnston; two brothers, Everett Johnston and Chester Johnston Jr. A graveside service will be held 11AM Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at Fairmount Cemetery.
