EAST MACHIAS - Lee Ackley died peacefully in his sleep during the evening hours of Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Marshall's Health Care Facility in Machias.
Lee lived an event filled life of 94 years. The father of five children was born on September 26th, 1920, the son of Lee and Hazel (Cheney) Ackley.
Lee served in the army during WWII and was on the front lines of battle. Lee worked as a welder for Cianbro Corporation before retiring at the age of 62. He spent 24 winters with his son Larry in Florida.
Lee or "Droop" would often visit Deano's wharf in Cutler to check out the action and get a free meal from the lobster men who'd often hand him a lobster or live bait.
In addition to being predeceased by his wife Mildred and son Ralph, Sr., Lee is survived by four children---James of Cookville, Tennessee; Larry of Port Orange, Florida; Mary Jane and Gary of East Machias as well as 21 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
A grave side committal will be held Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015 at 1:00pm in Cutler at the Old Cemetery with Pastor Ralph Ackley officiating. Arrangements were made by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Machias, ME.
