- Kathryn Louise Sheridan-Kahl, 58, passed away peacefully at her LaGrange home on Jan. 16, 2018. Her husband of more than 30 years was by her side.
Katy was born March 7, 1959, in Torrington, Connecticut, the daughter of Harry L. and Mildred Fritch Sheridan.
She grew up in Harwinton, Connecticut, and graduated from Lewis S. Mills High School in 1977. She earned an associate's degree in business in 1979 from Northwestern Connecticut Community College in Winsted.
One of her many interests during that time was canoe racing.
She met her husband, Werner, in 1981 while they both worked for Key Corp. in Bloomfield, Connecticut. They wed in 1985 and raised three daughters. While living in Winsted, the family would vacation every summer to a cabin on West Grand Lake in Maine, where they would fish, canoe, and picnic.
In 1998, the family moved to Maine; a dream Katy and her husband long shared.
In Maine, she worked for seven years at Filene's in Bangor, eventually becoming human resources manager. In 2005, she started a new chapter by working in administration at Hammond Lumber Co.
In her spare time, Katy enjoyed walking in the woods with her husband and dog Honey, hunting, fishing, gardening and baking. She also enjoyed a little adventure every once in a while, including skydiving, which she tried for the first time and loved in Sept. 2017.
Katy was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2014. Throughout years of treatment, she continued to work at Hammond Lumber and was able to see all three daughters get married and start their own families.
She is survived by her husband Werner Kahl; her children Amanda Kahl, and husband Derek Brewer of Medford, Maine, Elyse Catalina, and husband Andrew of Waterville, Maine, and Jessica Chapman, and husband Benjamin of Glenburn, Maine; her grandchildren Wolfgang, Lysander, Ella and Grayson, as well as another granddaughter due in June; her three sisters, Margaret Revaz and her husband Jack of Merritt Island, Florida, Susan Kenny and her husband James of Greenville, North Carolina, and Mary Poulin of Merritt Island, Florida; her brother David Sheridan and his wife Joyce of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. As well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is predeceased by her parents, Harry L. and Mildred Fritch Sheridan; and father-in-law, Paul Kahl.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Clay Funeral Home in Lincoln.
The family sends a special thank you to EMMC Cancer Care and Beacon Hospice for giving her the compassion and care she deserved.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Angel Flight NE, angelflightne.org or the World Wildlife Fund, worldwildlife.org.
