PALMYRA - Joseph E. Watrous, 49, died peacefully at his home on Monday, December 28, 2015, in Palmyra.
Joe was born on January 12, 1966, in New London, Connecticut, the son of Stephen and Sharon (Nortrup) Watrous. At a young age he learned to work hard alongside his dad at the family saw mill. He was employed for over 30 years at the Hartland Tannery.
Joe was a kind, gentle soul who was fun to be around. He was always willing and able to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was an honest and hardworking man. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and gardener.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jan Watrous of Palmyra; two daughters, Stephanie Watrous and companion, Nate Smock, of Houlton and Jennifer Perry and companion, Joshua Pitts, of Knoxville, Tennessee; Jan's son, Nicholas Carpenter and companion, Marissa Kratovil, of Chester, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Alex, Lillian, Able, Josie Ann, Arianna and Madison; mother, Sharon Watrous of Palmyra; sister, Susan Guilford of Palmyra; niece, Megan Spencer; nephew, Matthew Spencer; and close friends, Reggie and Sue Strout, Kenneth and Cindy Webber, Phil Ham, Bob and Marie Burton and Randy and Tina Tucker.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., with a funeral service immediately following at 6 p.m., Monday, January 4, 2016, at the Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield, Maine, with Rev. Mark Tanner officiating.
He was predeceased by his father, Stephen Watrous.
