Las Cruces, NM, and Fort Fairfield
- Joseph Frank Sweeney, Jr., 77, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Fort Fairfield, Maine, passed away on November 24, 2017, at Sierra Health Care, Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Joe was born on December 13th, 1939, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, the son of the late Joseph and Viola (Putnam) Sweeney.
Joe was a 1957 graduate of Fort Fairfield High School and a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1958-1962 and stationed in El Paso, Texas. Joe was employed by Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard, Massachusetts, for many years before retiring in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Joe was also a man of many talents and especially enjoyed his hobbies of working with wood products, his tools, and collecting rocks from the desert.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, his younger brother James, his niece, Catherine (Soucie) Nadeau and great niece, Julia Catherine Nadeau. He is survived by his three sisters, Ruth M. Sweeney, Fort Fairfield, Maine; Martha (Sweeney) Soucie, Fort Fairfield, Maine; Mary (Sweeney) Underwood and husband, John Underwood, Edgecomb, Maine; niece, Kimberly (Soucie) Wasson and husband, Sam Wasson, Presque Isle, Maine; nephew, Patrick Underwood and wife, Holly Underwood, and great niece Amira Underwood, N. Windham, Maine; along with several cousins and three very special friends; Diann Kesler, Glenn Holgersen, and Bruce Galloway from Las Cruces, New Mexico, and his loyal and loving dog, Homer.
Memorial services will be held in the spring of 2018.
