John's Story

LAKEVILLE - John Wesley Mulbeyer died at his home in Lakeville, Thursday, July 10, 2014. Born August 31, 1934 in Rochester, NY, he was the only child of Grace and Charles Mulbeyer.

John grew up in Rochester, spending as much time as he could hunting and fishing at his grandfather's camp in the Adirondacks. After graduating from West High School, he served in the United States Coast Guard from 1953 until retiring with honor as a Gunnery Master Chief in 1974. John had a distinguished service career and was awarded two bronze stars and the Navy Achievement Medal for his service in the Vietnam War. He developed and maintained close bonds with many of his fellow servicemen that lasted throughout his lifetime. John's love of hunting and the outdoors is what brought him to live in Maine. He spent his leave time while in the service in Maine, hunting and fishing. Upon his retirement, he made Lakeville, Maine his permanent home.

John was predeceased by his parents. He leaves behind his best friend and significant other Joan Banks. They were to celebrate their 28th anniversary on August 11th of this year. He also leaves behind many beloved friends. Robert Wiseman of Susquehanna, PA, Arnold "Rick" Beaulieu, Jr. of Glenburn, ME, and David Raymond of Brunswick, ME were like the brothers he never had. John also formed close friendships with William Martin of Stroudsburg, PA, Christopher Martin of Stillwater, PA, and Robert Dewar of Frederick, OK as well as many others.

As per John's wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, have a drink and make a toast to the life of an incredible man.
