- John E. Mackin, Sr., 87, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2017, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born on September 3, 1930, in Millinocket, the son of Clarence and Lillian (Gaskin) Mackin.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the late 1940's and early 1950's. He worked for the Great Northern Paper Company for more than 20 years, retiring in 1981.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. (Beagan) Mackin; three children, John Mackin, Jr. of Bangor, James Mackin and his wife, Sue, of St. Mary's, Georgia, and Jody Mackin of Millinocket; six grandchildren, John III, Amanda, Raun, Josey, Josh, and Ashley; four great-grandchildren Abigail, Jayce, Brooklin, and Ari; three sisters, Geraldine Martin, Marylou Corriveau, and Donna Cogswell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by brothers, Clarence, Carroll, and Vaughn Mackin, and sister, Marilyn Terrio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby Street, Millinocket, with the Rev. Bruce Siket, pastor, presider. Gifts in memory of John may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support Group, P.O. Box 374, Millinocket, ME 04462. Arrangements are by Lamson Funeral Home, Millinocket.
