Joanne's Story

CORINNA - Joanne Claire Hughes, 80, died July 2, 2015 at a Brewer rehabilitation center surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer. She was born April 19, 1935 in Biddeford, a daughter of John and Annie (Caron) Petit. She was a graduate of Old Orchard Beach High School and had been employed at the Raytheon Corporation.

Joanne loved to take care of others. She enjoyed hosting at her home and family camp on Big Indian Lake making sure everyone was happy and well fed. She was always filled with pride for her family. Spending time with them was one of her greatest joys, especially when they gathered together to play games, take boat rides and share meals. Her generous spirit extended beyond the reaches of family and friends through the many charities she supported over the years. Joanne was held in high regard by many for her kindness, compassion and strength, and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by a son, Steven and his significant other, Lisa Walker of Corinna; a daughter, Alayne Flionis of Corinna; a brother, Ralph and wife Doris Petit of Waterboro; 2 sisters, Jacqueline and husband Wendell Drown of Old Orchard Beach, June and husband William Champagne of Saco; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Ryan Leighton of St. Albans, Kerrie and husband Ken Lattari of Saco, Holly Hughes and fiancé Corey Bonnevie of Augusta; 2 great grandsons, Ryan and Caleb Leighton; several nieces, nephews, and her beloved dog Sophie.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert E. Hughes; 2 brothers, Roland and Paul Petit; and a sister Lorraine Verge.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Monday, July 13th, at the Corinna Center Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Chapel, Corinna.
