Jo's Story

Text size

Portland - Jo A. Durham Huff, of Belfast, Maine, passed away on August 19, 2016. Jo was very proud to be adopted by her parents Tolford and Beatrice (Archibald) Durham.
Her childhood years were spent in Belfast, Maine, Goffstown, New Hampshire, and Monson, Maine. She graduated from Gould Academy in 1954. After graduation, she returned to Monson to establish with her father and family the furniture business, "Moosehead Manufacturing." Beginning in the early '70s she built and ran a profitable restaurant called "The Cabbage Patch" in Greenville Jct., Maine. She was a savvy business woman, which enabled her to retire early at her beautiful home on Penobscot Bay. Throughout her years, she cherished her family, loved to cook and entertain, volunteered her time in the community, loved her Squaw Mountain Ski School family, enjoyed sketching and painting, and was an avid reader. Her humor and wit will be missed by many. She was lovingly known as Ganns by her grandchildren and most of the neighborhood.
She is survived by four children, Christopher Huff and his wife, Lynn, Carla Hanson and her husband, Bruce, Timothy Huff and his wife, Donna, and Colleen Huff; grandchildren, Nicholas Hanson and wife, Mindy, Zachary Hanson and wife, Lauree-Anne, Sarah Hanson, Jesse Huff and Alison Huf; great-grandchildren, Katie and Tucker Hanson; special cousins, Jean Durham and Van Wentworth; nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Beverly Garcia. The family wishes to express gratitude to friend Cindy Lewis. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Tad Durham; and grandson, Michael Huff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The James C. Durham Scholarship, which was started in honor of her grandfather for a student of Forestry Management Studies at University of Maine. There will be a gathering at the family home in Belfast on September 10, 2016, at 1 p.m.
