- Jeannette L. Welch, 91, died Saturday December 2, 2017 at the Katahdin Nursing Home. She was born June 28, 1926, in Westbrook, the daughter of Hormidas and Blanche (Guimond) Lavigne.
Jeannette grew up in Westbrook and was a 1945 graduate of Westbrook High School. She and her family relocated to Millinocket in 1955 where she was an active member of the community, volunteering for many local organizations. Through her volunteer work and hobbies, Jeannette's family and friends learned that she mastered everything she set her mind to. With the Millinocket Players, she put her creativity right to work, creating fantastic costumes. In addition to sewing, her many talents included painting and knitting - often creating her own knitting patterns. She treasured opportunities to spend time outdoors, whether hiking, cross country skiing or skating. She was an avid swimmer and loved, more than anything, to spend time with her family at camp.
Jeannette was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Patrick H. Welch II, children, Cathy Plummer and her husband Cliff of Westbrook, Timothy Welch and his wife Nola of Millinocket, Patrick H. Welch III and his wife Ellen Pope of Southwest Harbor, and Christine Rinaldi and her husband Anthony of Westbrook; grandchildren, Clifford, Scott, Stephanie, Aaron, Steven, Emma, Tasha, Joseph, and Michael; fourteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Jeannette will be remembered for her quick wit, her creative talents and her love of time spent with friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday December 16, at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 35 Church Street, Westbrook. A period of visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Stroudwater Street, Westbrook. Those wishing to remember Jeannette may make a gift in her name to the Alzheimer's Association Maine Chapter, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
