SORRENTO - Enveloped in love from family at her bedside and supported by the compassionate hospital staff at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Jeanette Gartley Kennedy passed away on June 20, 2015.

A proud girl from "The County," Jeanette was born in Houlton, Maine on May 5th, 1927 to parents Pauline Wolhaupter and Roy Gartley. Throughout her life, Jeanette made residence and friends in New Brunswick, NJ; Monmouth, ME; Sidney, ME; Scottsdale, AZ; and finally, Sorrento, ME.

She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Richard E. Kennedy in 2001 and sister, Clara Groves in 2010.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter Nancy (Kennedy) Marshall and son-in law, Bob Marshall of Sorrento, ME; daughter Ronde Kennedy of AZ; grandchildren Briana (Marshall) Carrigg of Rye, NH, Nicole Marshall of Scottsdale, AZ and Nicholas and Kaleigh Kennedy of AZ; as well as her great-grandson Maxwell Carrigg. She is also survived by her daughter-like niece Ann Groves Manson of North Andover, MA, nephews Doug Groves of Holden, MA and David Groves of NM; as well as her dear friends Jan Dodge of Belfast, ME and Barry and Cathy Malmrose of Sorrento, ME.

In her earlier years, Jeanette touched the lives of many children as a reading specialist in the Monmouth and Oakland Maine school systems but is perhaps best remembered for her physical and emotional strength, her tireless work ethic, her sharp wit, playfully mischievous personality, trust in humankind, undying generosity and infectious laugh. Jeanette was a lover of all things chocolate, big-band music, dogs, Law & Order, the Boston Celtics, cooking, and emitted an abundance of love in her role as "Mom" and "Nana." Continuing through her very last breath, Jeanette exuded graciousness, a pleasant disposition and her distinct humor.

In saying farewell, it is apropos to use words from one of Jeanette's favorite musicians, Frank Sinatra: "I've lived a life that's full. I've traveled each and every highway; And more, much more than this, I did it my way."

A private burial will be held at the Maine Veteran's Cemetery in Augusta with a celebration of life to be planned for family and friends at a later date.
