Jean's Story

Text size

Raleigh - Jean H. Sullivan loving mother, grandmother and dear friend passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at a Raleigh, NC hospital. Jean, also known as Jeannie to her childhood friends, was born March 23, 1935 in Berlin, NH to the proud parents of Madeleine and William Hansen. She was the only girl among the Hansen's three children.
Throughout her life Jean was known for her kindness to others, love and dedication to family, and fun loving spirit. Shortly after graduation she married the love of her life Phil Sullivan and together the two began a family. In the early 1960's Jean and Phil, along with their two young daughters Susan and Patricia, moved from New Hampshire to make their home in Northern Maine. Shortly afterwards their third child Stephen was born. Over the years the family established their roots in Maine with Jean working in the school system, in several local businesses and Key Bank of Maine until her retirement.
In 2011, Jean moved to North Carolina to be closer to her son Stephen and his family and enjoy a more temperate climate. In her retirement she enjoyed playing cards with her friends, weekly outings to local events and her watching the PGA golf tournaments on Sunday afternoons.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Madeleine and William Hansen, her twin brother John Hansen, her brother William Hansen and her husband Phillip Sullivan. Jean is survived by her children Susan Hatch and her husband Skip of Las Vegas NV, Patricia Robertson and her husband Harry of Lexington, MA and her son Stephen Sullivan and his wife Sandy of Wilmington, NC. In addition, Jean was the proud grandmother to five grandchildren, Nickolas and Sara Maynard, Alexandra and Benjamin Robertson, Jessica Sullivan, and one great-granddaughter, Maddie Maynard.
Because of her warmth and her big smile, Jean made friends easily wherever she went. Like many she braved challenges throughout her life with a smile, always more concerned about others than herself.
Jean leaves us all with so many beautiful memories and lessons. As her mot Her love will be our guide and although we cannot see her we know she will always be by our side.
