- Jean F. Burns, 87, was born in Brighton, Australia, the daughter of John and Anne McMahon.
After completing her Nurses training in her native country, Jean, like many young Australians, wanted to leave "down under" and see "what's above". She traveled extensively while supporting herself by working as a professional nurse in England, Denmark, Norway, the US, and Canada.
Although Jean was an American citizen for only part of her life she felt privileged to have lived in some of the most beautiful parts of our Country.
She raised her family in the natural beauty of Oregon, and especially Maine, relocating to Eddington, Maine, in 1974. All 4 of her children attended John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor between the years of 1977 and 1987.
In 1993, she relocated to western North Carolina to enjoy retirement. She enjoyed living in the fabulous mountains, especially enjoying the "Carolina blue" sky.
Jean died on Tuesday May 2, 2017, ending her 14-year ordeal with strokes, Parkinson's disease, colon cancer, and other health problems.
Jean is survived by her husband of 55 years Phillip. Phillip was her caregiver for 14 years towards the end of her life. She is also survived by her daughter Linda and her husband Bruce Stone of Portland, Maine; and sons Terence of Windham, Maine, David and his wife Rebecca of Naperville, Illinois, and Kevin and his wife Melissa of Saco, Maine.
Grandchildren surviving are Annelisa and John of Naperville and Kayla and Michael of Saco.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Doug May at Saint Eugene's Church, 72 Culvern Street, Asheville, NC on Friday, May 5th, 2017, at 11 am. Interment of ashes will follow in the Church's Columbarium.
Remembrances may be sent to the National Parkinson Foundation.
