MYSTIC, CONN. - Janice R. (McLaughlin) Stuart, 78, of Mystic, Conn., wife of the late Robert J. Stuart died unexpectedly, Tuesday, July 1, 2014. She was born in Medway, and was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mazie (McLoud) McLaughlin and resided in Mystic for the past 45 years.

Jan was a NSSF Comptroller for the U.S. Navy at the Sub base retiring in 2001 after 42 years of service. She loved traveling the world, shopping, reading and coffee! A hip chic who learned every new technology as it came out. Family was the most important thing to her, above all else. She was a matriarch to all who knew her, taking in extended family and loving them as her own. Always saying what she thought and meaning what she said, always with love. She never gave up on the people she loved.

She is survived by her four children, Robert Stuart and his wife, Dawn, of Conway, S.C., Cathleen Stuart/Kosloskey of Groton, Conn., Judith Holt and her husband, Steven, of Silverdale, WA and Susan Welsh and her husband, Peter, of Mystic, Conn.; sister-in-law, Marilyn Stuart of Lockport, NY; three sons and a daughter of late life-partner, William A. Dahn, William Dahn, Jr. of McKenna, WA, Marcus Dahn of Lee Summit, MO, Susan Komen and her husband, John, of Lee Summit, MO, and David Dahn and his wife, Carol, of Grove, OK ; six siblings, Carroll McLaughlin, Marilyn Ward, Lorna Severance and her husband, Michael, Lawrence McLaughlin, Galen McLaughlin and Glenda Hale and her husband, Daniel, all of Medway; 24 grandchildren;18 great-grandchildren; and her dog, Maisie. She was predeceased by her beloved dog, Sumei.

A service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Mystic Funeral Home Route 1 (51 Williams Ave.) in Mystic, Conn. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, River Rd., Old Mystic, Conn.
