Waterville - Janet May Cummings Rush, age 82, formerly of Somers, CT, died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 30, 2017 in her home in Woodlands Senior Living, Waterville, ME. She was born on February 23, 1935 in St. Albans, Maine, the first daughter of Fred and Aurelia Cummings.
Jan graduated from Lawrence High School in Fairfield, Maine, in 1952 and earned her LPN from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in 1975. In 1953 she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Rush of Benedicta, Maine. She lived in Somers, CT, for many years where she and Harold raised their four children. Here she enjoyed gardening, canning, shopping and decorating their beautiful home.
Jan was a strong woman of faith, a warm and compassionate person who was always generous and kind. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister who in her retirement enjoyed traveling across the country to visit relatives far and wide.
She is survived by her husband, Harold of Waterville, ME, daughter Pam Albano and her husband Bob of Papillion, NE, son Richard Rush and his wife Jean of Bonita Springs, FL, son Robert Rush and his wife Janet of Somers, CT, and daughter Mary Jerusik and her husband Andrew of Parker, CO, along with twelve grandchildren (Rachel, Randy, Ryan, Brendan, Ryan, Samantha, David, Sarah, Cody, Leah, Kayla, and Tommy) and five great-grandchildren (Jason, Isaac, Miles, Isabelle and Dagny due in October). Jan is also survived by her three siblings, Martha Dionne and her husband Ken of Skowhegan, ME, Shirley McDonald and her husband Ronald of Winslow, ME, and Tom Cummings and his wife Sandy of Smithfield, ME, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 26 Monument Street, in Winslow, ME. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery, 78 Grove Street, in Waterville, ME.

The family would like to thank the amazing teams at MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta, ME, and Woodlands Senior Living in Waterville, ME, for the caring and compassionate support they provided both Jan and her family in her last days.
