MILO - J. Calvin Lyford, 89, husband of the late Annamae (Toepfer) Lyford, passed away July 23, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born June 12, 1925, in Milo, the son of Perley and Clara (Sawtelle) Lyford.
Calvin owned and operated Simko's General Store in Milo, and worked for the CP Railroad for many years. He enjoyed the carpentry jobs he did for "his ladies", bowling, gardening and snowsledding.
Calvin is survived by four daughters, Carol Davidson of Garland, Georgia Walker and her husband, Michael, of Bowdoinham, Donna Stone of New Hampshire, and Theresa Voisine of Corinth; a brother, Herbert "Rusty" Lyford and his wife, Fran, of New Hampshire; a sister, Florence Brown and her husband, Bruce, of New Jersey; and ten grandchildren, Dawn Marie Bishop and her husband, Larry, of Garland, Veronica Levesque of Levant, Sherri Coburn and her husband, Michael, of Brownville, Patricia Stanhope and her husband, Raymond, of Brownville, Carol Anne Bowman and her husband, Robert, of Charleston, Lance Walker and his wife, Heidi, of Falmouth, Heather Cox and her husband, Tony, of Bowdoinham, Brandy Stone of New Hampshire, Brittney Stone of Milo, and Kara Voisine of Corinth; 16 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. The family extends grateful thanks to Calvin's caregivers, whose kind and compassionate care allowed Calvin to stay at home with dignity: Elaine Landry, Anne Weston, Jackie Willinski, and Sue Coburn.
Friends and family are invited to call from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with Rev. Michele St. Cyr officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery. After the service, friends and family are invited to share refreshment and memories at Calvin's house, 62 W Main St., Milo.
