Text size

Bar Harbor - Hoyt Piermont Hamor, 92, died on November 7, 2017, in Bar Harbor, Maine, with his family by his side. He was born on September 30, 1925, in Bar Harbor, to Katherine R. (Perry) and Leslie I. Hamor.
Hoyt graduated from Bar Harbor High School and then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1945, during WWII. Hoyt continued his education at the University of Maine before marrying his wife, Nancy Morrison, in 1950 and starting his family. He was involved in the construction business for a majority of his life, building many homes and businesses in the Bar Harbor area. He and his wife, Nancy, owned and operated many motels, including Holiday Motel, in Hulls Cove, which he built, the Villager, and The Wonderview Motel.
Hoyt served his community by being on a number of boards and committees around Bar Harbor, including the Town Council, Planning Board, Kebo Valley Golf Club, The Historical Society and The Ledgelawn Cemetary Association. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #185.
Hoyt found great pleasure in golfing at Kebo Valley Golf Club, where he was a lifetime member, starting out as a caddy, as a teenager, and playing golf into his 89th year. He dedicated many days to the improvement of Kebo Valley Golf Club, including the repair of tees and the building of bridges, along with his good friends Jim Murray and Cary Swan. He also played at numerous golf courses throughout the State of Maine and Florida.
Hoyt had a love of boating, and owned many boats in his lifetime, often two or more at a time. He enjoyed numerous days on the water with his family, around MDI and Florida. He also had a passion for "digging in the dirt" with his many backhoes, dump trucks and heavy equipment.
After retirement, Hoyt and his wife, Nancy, spent numerous winters in Palm Beach Shores, Florida enjoying golf, boating, the beach, and their grandchildren.
Hoyt leaves his two daughters, Katherine Hamor, of Bar Harbor, and Barbara Hamor Stoneman and husband, Larry; his grandchildren, Tanner and Connor Stoneman, of North Palm Beach, Florida; his sister, Helen Hamor Seabury, of Longmeadow, MA; his nieces, Helen Coston Witham and Mary Jane Coston Whitney, and nephews, Leland, Scott, Hoyt and Richard Seabury, and Paul Coston Jr. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy (Morrison) Hamor and by his daughter, Julia A. Hamor and son, Charles L. Hamor, and sister, Barbara Coston. Hoyt will be dearly missed by his family and numerous friends.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Birch Bay Village for all their care and compassion.
Private graveside services will be held in the spring at Ledgelawn Cemetary, Bar Harbor. A celebration of his life will follow at Kebo Valley Golf Club.
Contributions in Hoyts memory may be made to YMCA, 21 Park Street, Bar Harbor, or Jesup Memorial Library, 34 Mt. Desert St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
