Old Town and Bangor
- Herbert 'Herbie' Hoover Dow, 89, passed away on December 29, 2017, at Maine Veteran's Home in Bangor. He was born in Old Town on November 8, 1928, the son of Charles and Celia Dow.
Herbie attended Old Town schools. He joined the US Army and served multiple tours. When he completed his military service, he worked for Owens-Illinois Paper Mill as a Machine Operator for 34 years until the mill closed its doors. He was a dedicated life member of the American Legion, Post 75, VFW Post #3381, and the Cooties.
Herbie was a devoted husband and father. He never said no to any requests made by his wife and sons. He will be dearly missed.
Herbie is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Barbara (Eldridge) Dow of Old Town; sons, Michael Dow and wife, Terri, of St. Augustine, FL, and Linwood Dow and wife, Renee, of West Old Town; grandchildren, Kerri, Mickey and Brandon; step-grandchildren, Michael O'Connor and James "Jimmy" O'Connor; great-grandchildren, LaKeisha, Jade, Kendahl, Chloe, Leah, and Dominick. He is also survived by his brother, Charlie Dow, and two sisters, Lucinda Brow and Luella Hicks; as well as two very special friends, Michael Johndrow and Beryl Bartlett. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Erica Dow and Gregory Dow.
Family and friends are welcome to call from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St, Old Town. Funeral and interment will be announced in the spring.
