Helen Isabel Cheney McLennan

June 15, 1924 - December 25, 2018

Ashland and Nashville Plantation - Helen Isabel Cheney McLennan, 94, died December 25, 2018. She was born June 15, 1924 in Washburn, a daughter of the late Samuel Cox and Eva Belle (Getchell) Cheney.
Helen graduated from Ashland Community High School and Becker College, in Leicester, MA. Helen worked most of her life. Her first job was at the Ashland Opera House, as an usher. When she and Dick bought "The Garage" from Sam, she worked about every capacity needed. She stayed home for many years, to raise their five children, until the youngest was in elementary school. She then went to work, in Presque Isle, at Maine Public Service, for several years, until she took the job, as the Dietician, for the Ashland School District.
Helen was a member of the Ashland Congregational Church, the Eastern Star, was on the auxiliary, at the Ashland VFW and the Ashland and Portage Snowmobile Clubs.
Helen had many hobbies: Her favorite was brook fishing for trout, with Dick! She was an amazing seamstress, for herself and her daughters, knitter for everyone and a snowmobiler like no other. She and Dick were on their sleds from the time the trails were groomed until the dirt was showing! Helen had a love for music and dancing. We grew up with the stereo playing from the time she got up in the morning until sundown. She loved teaching us and our friends how to dance to the latest hits.
She leaves behind: children, son Richard Philip McLennan and Cynthia Strout of Hollis, Maine, daughter Nancy McLennan-Smith and Parker R. Smith of Moses Lake, Washington, son Dale Cheney McLennan and Maryann McLennan of Kenai, Alaska, daughter Nola McLennan Keenan of Presque Isle, Maine and son-in-law Howard Forbes of Homer, Alaska. Six grandchildren Jodi Smith Bolduc and Art of Moses Lake, Washington, Angelia Forbes of Soldotna, Alaska, Alicia Forbes of Kenai, Alaska, Grant Clark and Kristen of Mapleton, Maine, Reed Clark and Abby of Mapleton, Maine, Chloe McLennan of Portland, Oregon. Also, great-grandmother to Spencer and Kaeden Bolduc of Moses Lake, Washington, Roman McLennan of Portland, Oregon, Emma Birdie Hill of Soldotna, Alaska and Wilson Clark of Mapleton, Maine.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband Richard McLennan, a daughter Norma McLennan Forbes, an infant son, Grant Keith McLennan, one sister, Polly Cheney Howard, and two brothers, William Glen Cheney and Philip Robert Cheney.
Helen was a large personality in the Ashland community...GIVING, A FRIEND TO ALL AND A SPUNKY PERSONALITY!
A Memorial Service will be announced during the Summer of 2019 by Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St./PO Box 39, Ashland. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's name may be made to the Portage Lake Snowmobile Club or Ashland Snowmobile Club. www.LajoieFuneralHome.com

Her beautiful spirit will survive her passing in the loving family she leaves behind. We are selfishly sad because we lose her here and now as we smile to celebrate her reunion with Dick and Norma et al.
So easy to Love her.
