Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Frank; daughter, Christine Corriveau Hatch; grandson, Daren Brown; grandson-in-law, Rick Gerth; and nine siblings. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Steven Sr. and Jeanne, Danny, Carleen and Rudy; and son-in-law, Denny; many grandchildren, Steven, Jr. and Jill, Brien and Maggie, Devin and Chuck, Sara and Billy, Tommy, Craig and Rachel, Jen and Jaimee and Will; great-grandchildren, Colby, Bradley, Michael Emma, Kalli, Chloe, Tanner, Lilly, Madison, Reilly, Charles, Brianna, Kelsea and Hope; great-great-grandchildren, Skyler and Nathan; many nieces and nephews.
Hazel was born in Old Town to parents Albina and Francis Gallant. She was the last of ten children. At the age of 16 she went to work in the shoe shop. She also worked at the tree farm and A&P, but her favorite job was sewing shoes at home with her friend and neighbor, Georgia Martin. Haze enjoyed a number of things. At the top of the list was bingo, especially Thursday nights at the American Legion Hall in Howland. She loved chatting with her friends. She would shower, have her hair curled and be dressed by 10 am, then play dice or Skipbo with Tonja and Joann and Donna til 5, for money, of course! She also enjoyed spending time with her life long friend, Priscilla. Through the years she bowled, enjoyed many Vegas trips with her friends and played pitch with the Tanous' and Pratt's at camp on Cold Stream, where she loved spending her summer. She had a wonderful sense of humor and her witty remarks will surely be missed. She loved doing Sudoku every morning with Cubby...sometimes calling Carleen for the answers, and looked forward to the "best thing she ever ate in her life" from Steve. They enjoyed many wonderful meals and talks together.
Per Hazel's request there will be no visitation. Mass will be held at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Howland on Friday, April 28, at 11 am. Graveside service will follow at the cemetery in West Enfield. Fellowship luncheon to follow at St. Leo catholic church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Leo's Catholic Church. There is no other like our mother more than anything she loved her children, Haze, you will be sadly missed! RIP Hazelberry. Online condolences may be expressed at www.clayfuneralhome.com.
