Haze's Story

Text size

Portland - Haze "Buddy" McDougal passed away on September 18, 2016, in Portland. He was 45 years old. He was born November 7, 1970, in El Paso, Texas.
He attended Limestone schools and graduated the Class of '89. He was nicknamed after his Grammie's deceased brother, John "Buddy" Coffey. As a young boy, Buddy loved going fishing with his Dad at the brook or Trafton Lake. He had always shared a special bond with his mother, who he lovingly referred to as "Ma" or "Mabel". Buddy showed artistic talent at a young age, drawing amazing pictures. He later became a gifted writer and musician. He wrote poetry and songs, and played in several rock bands over the years. Playing guitar was his passion, just like his Bampi McDougal. He was also a roofer by trade. Buddy had a magnetic personality; he befriended anyone and held no judgments. He was intelligent, charming, loving and could make you laugh in an instant. His smile would light up a room. He was a beautiful soul and he will remain in our memories and hears always.
Buddy is survived by his parents, Haze A. McDougal III of Oklahoma City and Deborah M. and John Cross of Limestone; his sister, Laura Kirk of Windham; five children, whom he loved dearly, Kane, Izaak, Morgan, Ian and Autumn McDougal; one granddaughter, Lilliana McDougal; two nephews, Matthew Mileto and Tristan Kirk; one niece, Audra Fitzherbert, and grandmother, Shirley Wood; also many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, James and Ada Coppeler and Haze A. McDougal Jr. He will also be missed by the many friends who knew him as Haze.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, at The United Methodist Church in Limestone, with Pastor Steven Dale officiating. Buddy wished to be cremated, so there will be no graveside service. Donations in his memory may be made to The Milestone Foundation.
"If in the twilight of memory should we meet once more, we shall speak again together and you shall sing me a deeper song."
