Harriet's Story

BANGOR - Harriet (Grindle) Vafiades of Bangor passed away peacefully April 16, 2015, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Born on December 31, 1935, in Ellsworth, ME, she led an active life having retired from AT&T and was a volunteer for many years with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks Club.

Harriet was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Vafiades of Bangor, and they will be spending their 49th wedding anniversary together again in heaven on April 18th. She was predeceased by her mother, Mildred Card; and her brothers, Elmer and Charles Grindle. She is survived by her sister, Mary Shephard of Tyngsboro, MA; and was the loving mother of two surviving daughters, Jennifer DelMonte and her husband, Terry DelMonte, of Portland and Stephanie Behling and her husband, Scott Behling, of Sandown, NH; her five very close grandchildren, Corey, Eric, Rachel, Drew and Maria, who she made a large focus of her life in her retirement years. She will be missed dearly by her many friends and family yet be remembered always for the wonderful time and memories that we all shared.

A private burial will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, at a later date. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 90 Sanford St., Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor.
