Text size

Dayton - Harriet Ann Osgood passed away on July 19, 2017. She was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, and raised as the youngest of five children in Vanceboro, Maine. Her parents were Harry David and Mary Louisa Davis. In 1948 Harriet married Fred Osgood, also of Vanceboro. She is survived by her five children Dean, Dan, Carl, Gary, and Laura and their spouses, her brother Lee of Barnstable, Mass., many nieces and nephews, 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Harriet was predeceased by her husband Fred and her sisters Elizabeth, Katherine, and Ruth.
Harriet and Fred began their lives together in Old Town, then moved to Rockport becoming Dorm Parents at Glen Cove Christian Academy. Harriet was caring, generous, calm and loving--always ready to help anyone in need, possessing a truly open heart. She was a wonderful cookable to make a delicious meal for her family of seven from very meager ingredients. The family sweet-tooth was rewarded at the end of every meal with homemade cakes, cookies, pies, and brownies. Harriet sewed the family clothes, knitted a hundred pair of mittens and hats, and enjoyed tole painting on birdhouses and recipes boxes. When the children were young Fred and Harriet took them on annual camping trips to the coast, visited family at a lake in Canada, made trips to see the Red Sox or longer trips to family in Alabama.
Harriet loved and was loved by everyone. She faithfully stood beside her husband Fred and brought the light of Christ to everyone she met. When Fred assumed the position of pastor at Spruce Head Community Church, in 1980, Harriet's life became a busy one. Church pianist, Sunday School Teacher, social activities director, and Baking Queen were among her formal and informal contributions. Harriet greatly loved and enjoyed her grandchildren. Always ready to give, wanting only a hug or a smile in return, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life Monday July 24, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 13 Portland Rd, Buxton (Bar Mills). On Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. memorial service will be held at the Hollis Center Church, 388 Hollis Rd, Hollis, Maine, followed by a reception at the church and interment at Sebago Lakes Cemetery in Standish.
