- Guenther E. Classen, 92, passed away at home in Harrington, Maine, on September 12, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1925 and immigrated to the United States in 1952. He moved to Ellsworth, Maine, in 1974. There he worked at Barnard Nursing Home (Courtland Living Center) for 14 years as maintenance supervisor. He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. He was also a 20 year member of Footloose Friends of the Southwest Harbor Library.
He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Hannalore F. Classen. He is survived by his son, Peter Classen and his wife, Judy, of Harrington, Maine; two granddaughters, Heidi Roesselet of Gardner, Massachusetts, and Lori and her husband, James Hill, of Norwalk, Connecticut; two great-grandsons, Caleb Roesselet of Champlin, Minnesota and Aaron Roesselet of Gardner, Massachusetts. He is also survived by two brothers, Kurt Classen and his wife, Eva, of Hamburg, Germany and John Classon of Venus Bay, Victoria, Australia.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Ellsworth.
