Grace's Story

BURLINGTON - Grace Anne Bowers, 82, wife of Glendon Bowers, passed away Nov 23, 2014 at a Lincoln healthcare facility. She was born Dec 20, 1931, in Lee, the daughter of Clyde and Lila (Lowell) Speed.

Grace Anne was a bookkeeper for Bowers Logging for many years. She was a founder of the Burlington 4th of July Parade. She was a co- author of childrens books, made wedding cakes, and served as a dispatcher for the Triangle Fire Department. She was a Polio survivor.

In addition to her husband she is survived by three children and their spouses, Clydean Shorey and Greg, Susan Priest and Chuck, and Philip Bowers and Melissa; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Speed and his wife, Joyce; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Speed. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Michael Bowers and a brother, Dale Speed.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Repose Cemetery, with Pastor John Fennell officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Post-Polio Health International (PHI), 4207 Lindell Blvd., #110, Saint Louis, MO 63108-2930.
