Smiths Station, AL - Glenn C. Speed, Sr., 84, of Smiths Station, AL, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017, at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, AL.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. EST, Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Skip Speed officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. EST at Vance Memorial Chapel, Phenix City, AL.
Mr. Speed was born January 9, 1933, in Lincoln, ME, son of the late Clyde Speed and Lila Lowell Speed. He worked for 15 years as a Fish and Game Warden. Later he spent of 35 years as a pastor. Throughout the years, the Lord blessed him and his family through their ministry. Additionally, he loved wood working and being outdoors, fishing and hunting.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Pam Izon and Kathy Welch; one sister, Grace Ann Bowers; one brother, Dale Speed; and a son-in-law, Tom Izon.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Hamilton Speed of Smiths Station, AL; one daughter, Rebecca Madasz and husband David of Palm Harbor, FL; two sons, Rev. Skip Speed and wife Eilene of Smiths Station, AL, and Gary Speed and wife Melanie of Howland, ME; thirteen grandchildren, twenty six great-grandchildren, and several extended family members and church family.
