Gertrude's Story

DANBURY, CT - Gertrude (Fitzgerald) Lee, 89, of Danbury, CT, formerly of West Hartford, CT and Houlton, Maine, wife of the late Freeland Lee, died on Thursday evening, July 23, 2015 at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Lee was born in Houlton, Maine, October 20, 1925, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Clare Mae (Langan) Fitzgerald. She attended Houlton schools and graduated from the Mt. Sinai School of Nursing of South Florida.

A resident of Danbury for the past six years, Mrs. Lee was a resident of West Hartford for forty seven years coming from Maine. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Lee was an assistant director of nursing at Hughes Health and Rehabilitation of West Hartford. She was a former communicant at St Thomas the Apostle Church of West Hartford.

An avid reader, she also enjoyed trips to Mohegan Sun.

Mrs. Lee is survived by two sons, Richard J. Lee , MD of Brookfield, CT and R. Paul Lee and his wife, Kimberley of Victor, NY; two grandsons, Michael Lee and his wife, Nicole and Thomas Lee as well many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Lee was predeceased by Roy Fitzpatrick, Margaret Harrigan, J. Thomas Fitzpatrick, Joseph Fitzpatrick, Eugene Fitzpatrick, Mary Harding, Paul Fitzpatrick, Luis Fitzpatrick, and Jeremiah Fitzpatrick

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 10 AM in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 163 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT.

Interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford, CT.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield, CT on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 6 PM to 9PM.
