BANGOR - Gerald "Jerry" D. Estabrook, 88, passed away peacefully in the company of his family and in the caring hands of the Maine Veterans Homes staff on Saturday, April 26, 2014. He was born August 8, 1925, in Bangor, a son of Fred W. and Edith C. (Dow) Estabrook. He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Frances L.C. (Callahan) Estabrook.
Jerry served with honor in the U.S. Army during World War Two, as a member of the 6th Anti-aircraft Battalion, as a fuse setter, 15 months of which were spent overseas in the ETO. He worked for many years for Viner Brothers Shoe Company, but his happiest years were spent in retirement; growing his many gardens and cultivating his love for farming.
He is survived by daughter, Catherine J. Estabrook and her son, Aaron; daughter, Kerry E. Zimmerman and her husband, John, and their children, Jade J. Milar and her husband, Henry, and their daughter, Gabriella, True F. Hesseltine, and Kara S. Zimmerman; and son, Gerald "Jed" F. Estabrook and his daughters, Allyson, Julianna, Samantha, Madeline; his brother, Dean and wife, Nora of Missouri and many nieces and nephews.
A chapel service with military honors will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
