ORLAND - George Robert Sawyer beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather and Career Union Employee of St. Regis/Champion, Published Author as well as Civil War Historian.

George "Georgie" Robert Sawyer, 86, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 15, 2015. He was born in Bucksport, ME on July 28, 1929, the son of Allie and Charlotte (Brooks) Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer was a published author and Civil War Historian as well as volunteering his time and knowledge in finding Civil War Veteran's burial locations, where he restored and added missing grave markers in honor of our fallen soldiers. He was a member of the Orland Methodist Rising Sun Lodge #71 Royal Arch of Masons, where he earned the degree of Master Mason in 1971; he was also a member of Chapter #19 King Solomon Council of the Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his beloved daughter Barbara Sawyer, granddaughter Stacy Ellen Sawyer and great-grandsons Justice and Malik all of Woodland Hills, CA., as well as sister Barbara (Sawyer) Perry of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Mr. Sawyer was predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth A. Sawyer, infant daughter Marie Ellen Sawyer, brother James Sawyer and sister Mary (Sawyer) Loring.

A private graveside service will be held in the spring.
