- Gary R. "Apple" McGregor, 47, passed away in Bangor, surrounded by his family, October 9, 2017, after a short illness. He was born in Bangor, April 3, 1970, the son of Larry R. McGregor and Geneva M. Comeau.
Gary graduated from Orono High School in 1988. He went to work in the glass business, working for many companies over the years. He was active in the community, especially in veteran's affairs, holding seats with both the VFW Post #3381 and the American Legion Post #75.
Gary had a great sense of humor and made friends wherever he went. Gary was a caring man with a heart of gold. He will be missed by many dear friends.
Gary is survived by his father, Larry McGregor; siblings, Rick McGregor (Erica), Bernie Lynch (Janine), Ryan McGregor (Jordi), Kasie Sanborn (James), Mandy Cooley (Pete), Melanie McGregor, Larry McGregor, Jr. (Erin), and David McGregor (Tanya); uncle, Dan Comeau; special cousin, Vern Darling and wife, Sue; many nieces, nephews and other family; as well as the VFW, who he considered family. Gary was predeceased by his mother, Geneva; stepmother, Lisa McGregor; grandparents, Alfred "Peanut" and Isabelle "Belle" Oakes; and grandmother, Phyllis Hayes.
A memorial service for Gary will be held 10 am, Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, with Rev. Bruce Stevens, Old Town Police and Fire Chaplain and Old Town Baptist Church, officiating.
