- Frances E. "Diddie" McCluskey, 86, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 18, 1930, in Bangor, the daughter of Francis and Elizabeth (Leach) Geaghan.
Diddie grew up in Bangor and graduated from John Bapst where she was a member of the drama club and cheering team. After graduating from high school, Diddie went on to study nursing at Eastern Maine General Hospital and graduated as a Registered Nurse. After moving to Monticello she practiced private duty nursing in Houlton and later worked at the Mars Hill Health Center. After retiring from her nursing career Diddie went to work for the Maine Tourism Bureau in Houlton. She married Ronald McCluskey on December 16, 1952, and they moved to Virginia while he was in the Navy. Upon their return to Maine, they settled in Monticello and Ronald began farming and Diddie went to work as a private duty nurse, as well as for local hospitals in Houlton and Mars Hill. Diddie was an eternal optimist with a sense of humor that was second to none. She was thoughtful, kindhearted and very helpful.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorinda Sherwin and her husband, Richard of Cloverdale, CA; a son, G. William "Bill" McCluskey and his wife, Martine of Houlton; five grandchildren, Kate Carton, Meg Carton, Tabitha McCluskey, Lea McCluskey, Amaya McCluskey; two great-grandchildren, Sage Fowler and Connor Betts; a sister, Theresa LePage. She also leaves behind five sisters-in-law, Arlene Geaghan of Bangor, Lou Geaghan of Bangor, Gert Geaghan of Waterville, Pat Geaghan of Bangor, and Janet Bates of Houlton, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by six brothers and four sisters.
There will be no service at this time. Those who wish to remember Diddie in a special way may make gifts in her to memory payable to the G.
