Everett's Story

East Machias - Everett Alton Farnsworth, 82, died Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Sunrise Care Facility, Jonesport, Maine after a long illness. He was born April 2, 1934, in East Machias, the son of Alton and Anna (Kingsley) Farnsworth.
After graduating from Washington Academy in 1952, Everett joined the U.S. Navy, serving during both the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He met his wife, Helen, while stationed in California. It was while living in California that they were married and their three children were born. Everett served his country for twenty years before retiring and moving home to East Machias. He then enrolled in the University of Maine Machias where he earned his degree in education and taught school in Lubec for many years. Everett also coached volleyball while teaching in Lubec, and he always spoke fondly of his days coaching. After retiring from teaching, he kept busy working and volunteering.
Everett loved the Lord and served as a pastor at the Whiting Community Church for a number of years. He volunteered as a driver for WHCA and served as the main caretaker of the Jacksonville Cemetery until his health prevented him from doing so.
Everett was predeceased by his parents, Alton and Anna; his wife, Helen; and his oldest son, Wyatt.
Everett is survived by his son, Tracy and his wife, Theresa; his daughter, Amy Fritz; five grandchildren, Ben Fritz and his wife, Jessica, Carilla Fritz and her wife, Brandie, step-grandson, Clint Gardner, and Andrew and Cameryn Farnsworth. Everett also leaves behind three great-grandsons, Wyatt, Mason, and Parker Fritz.
There will be a viewing for family and friends on Wednesday, October 26, from 5pm-7pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 27 at 1pm Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias.
Internment will be at the Jacksonville Cemetery immediately following the service. A time of fellowship with the family will then be held at Grace Community Church, Stackpole Road, Machias.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Everett's memory to the Maine Veterans' Home in Machias, 32 Veterans Drive, Machias, Maine or the Alzheimer's Association, Maine chapter, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
