Evelyn's Story

BREWER - Evelyn Mae (Sargent) Archer, 98, passed away peacefully Aug. 9, 2014 in Bangor. She was born June 1, 1916 in Troy, one of six children of Nathaniel and Emma (Wren) Sargent.

Evelyn is survived by her twin sons, Ronald Archer and his wife, Judith of Thorndike and Roger Archer and his wife, Vanessa of Holden; grandchildren, Janice Archer of Bangor, John Archer and his partner, Susan Brown of Orrington, Julie Monroe and her husband, Daniel of Holden, Robert Archer of Clinton; a special "great granddaughter", Hannah Dunn of Bangor; four other great grandchildren with several other extended family members and friends.

Evelyn enjoyed an active and engaged life. She moved to Brewer in 1934 after graduating from Unity High School. She worked several jobs throughout her life, most memorable being a nurse's aide, a clerk at Freese's Department Store, a cook at a Girl Scout Camp, a cook in the employee cafeteria at Sears in "downtown", as an Avon Lady and a volunteer at Eastern Agency on Aging. Evelyn was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brewer. She loved to knit mittens, do jigsaw puzzles and cook. Time spent with family and friends was very important to her. Spaghetti dinners at her home were not to be missed

Family and friends may join in remembering Evelyn at a visitation 4 - 6 PM on Wednesday, Aug13, 2014 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer . A graveside service will be held 11 AM Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014 at East Thorndike Cemetery, Thorndike. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mt.
