LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Eugene J. Raymond went to Heaven today, May 6, 2015. He was born in Old Town, ME, on February 2, 1944.

He graduated from Bangor High in 1962. Gene was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served in Germany with the 50th Air Police K-9 Unit. He stayed in contact with the men in his unit throughout the years, including special friends, David and Tom. Gene was a sales representative for Proctor & Gamble for 15 years, where he made lifelong friends, and he was an automotive salesman for local car dealerships in Bangor, ME, including Darlings Ford and Bangor Dodge. Everyone praised Gene for his honesty and helpfulness during and after the sale of their new vehicle. Gene's passion, second to us family, was cars. He would spend his free time searching for cars and car parts, as well as performing many restoration projects with his brother, Ronnie. Gene was a regular on Wednesday nights at "Cruisin'" at Nicky's Diner, where he would often meet with friends and family to talk about cars. He would always find cars in the woods of Maine or by the Oceanside on his annual vacation to Wells Beach with his family. Gene always enjoyed his trip with Kevin Reed to Owls Head for the annual car auction, he attended the event rain or shine. He participated annually in the Special Olympics Parade in support of his special friend Harry, both his grandchildren Sarah and A.J. Joined him on a number of occasions in his Mustang Convertible. Gene was a wonderful, loving papa to all of his grandchildren, and he always made time to be involved completely in their lives. He attended countless numbers of gymnastics events, baseball, soccer and softball games, as well as first days of school. Gene had many wonderful friends who he would find on his doorstep taking him for coffee and looking for advice. He would be home one minute, and off chasing a car the next. He loved to spend time helping family members find their next new or used car.

Gene is survived by wife, Linda (McKenzie); daughters, Jane Hopkins and husband, J.R. Hopkins, of Las Cruces, NM, and Laura Young and husband, Rob, of Hudson, ME; grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew (A.J.) Hopkins, Debbie, Jen, and Zach Young; great-granddaughters, Amberlyn Claire Garcia and Brenley Elizabeth Hoskins; his sister, Nancy Small and husband, Tom, of Bangor; sister-in-law, Nancy Pomeroy-Raymond, Harrison and Harry, all of Bangor; cousin, Emma Lambert; and nieces, Diana Evans and Erin Rumsey. Gene's other family are the congregation at church in Veazie, ME, where he faithfully attended services. He especially enjoyed the plant sale, where he spent time helping Bonnie and Peter cook hotdogs on the grill. Gene was always willing to help out family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

As requested, no services will be held.

Gene, rest in peace, Amen and Amen.
