- Eric J. Shaw Sr., 57, died unexpectedly at home with his family on July 15, 2017. He was born February 19, 1960, in Bangor, the son of Frank W. Shaw Sr. and Avis L. (Wardwell) Shaw.
Eric graduated from Brewer High School in 1978. He started working while in junior high school for John Robichaud, where he learned to master his trade in autobody and mechanical repair. He then went on to work for Bickford's Autobody and Reed's Garage before venturing out on his own to operate Shaw's Automotive/Garage for many years with the help of his brother, Jeff Shaw.
Eric was a member of the Exiles Motorcycle Club for many years and was the President of Work-A-Holics Anonymous, due to his insane work ethic and many pending responsibilities.
Eric was predeceased by his father, Frank W. Shaw Sr.; and his sister, Shawn DeCesere. He is survived by his mother, Avis; his brothers, Sonny and Jeff; his sons, Justin and Eric "Junior"; his grandkids, Patrick, Morganne and Jett; in-laws, Debbie and Marni; other family members, Exile Club brothers; and his loving former wife, Lisa Shaw.
Eric had a great passion for life showing it in the quality of his paint jobs, the great love he showed to his family and friends, his witty, dry sense of humor, and the dedication to helping others no matter what the need. He loved to ride his Harley with his club brothers and close friends, sharing laughter and wisdom on the way. Close friends fondly referred to him as "Harry" and enjoyed many "Harry-isms" such as "Don't be Bitter ... Reconsider."
Eric always took the time to listen to people and had the rare gift of letting you know that you mattered to him. One of the true grit "tough guys." He had a real compassion for people, therefore he will be remembered with respect by all who crossed his path and with much love by all who truly knew him.
Exiles M.C. will be hosting a memorial ride on September 16, leaving from Penobscot Ice Arena, 90 Acme Rd., Brewer, with "kickstands up" at 1 p.m. and riding to the Clubhouse for a celebration of Eric's life.
